Xu Fei from China Academy of Information and Communications: Doing a Good Job of “Connecting the Past and the Next”, Conducting Research and Testing Verification of 5G-A Key Technologies

On October 30th, the “2023 5G Network Innovation Seminar” organized by the TD Industry Alliance (Beijing Telecommunications Technology Development Industry Association) with the theme of “Innovative Technology Application and Opening up a New Era of 5G” was held in Beijing. At the conference, Xu Fei, Deputy Director of the Mobile Communication Innovation Center of the China Academy of Information and Communications, delivered a keynote speech on “Promoting 5G Advanced Technology and Applications”.

Xu Fei stated that the commercial use of 5G has basically spread globally, network construction and market development have accelerated, and the global 5G is showing a rapid development trend. The construction of China’s 5G network follows the principle of “moderately leading”, effectively supporting the scale of 5G applications and the innovative development of the digital economy, and is at the forefront of the world. At present, China’s 5G is accelerating its penetration into the vertical field and entering the second half of its development.

Xu Fei pointed out that 5G-A, as the intermediate stage of the evolution from 5G to 6G, plays a connecting role in defining new goals and capabilities for the development of 5G, enabling 5G to generate greater social and economic value, and has a significant impact on the future development of 6G.

She introduced that in November 2022, the IMT2020 (5G) Promotion Group aggregated the strength of Chinese academic research and released the “5G Advanced Scenario Requirements and Key Technologies White Paper”, proposing the overall vision of 5G-A. Propose six main scenarios for 5G-A, including immersive real-time, intelligent uplink, intelligent manufacturing, synesthesia integration, billions of interconnected, and heaven earth integration. The 5G-A vision and development drivers are mainly manifested in three aspects:

Firstly, there are new scenarios and technological capabilities. Enhance network capabilities, activate the AR/VR industry, and fully enable the metaverse; Support the most comprehensive IoT capabilities and fully enable the intelligent connection of all things; Support the ability to transcend connectivity through perception and high-precision positioning, and build a harmonious digital intelligence society with efficient governance; Support the integration of space and space, providing a wider range of wide area coverage;

Secondly, we will deepen the intelligent transformation of various industries. Enable vehicle networking and improve the level of vehicle networking and intelligence; Digital twins enhance industry decision-making efficiency; Supporting digital, intelligent, and flexible production in industrial manufacturing;

The third is to promote green and energy-saving construction. Technologies to improve wireless system efficiency and help reduce carbon emissions across the industry.

Xu Fei stated that in the future, the IMT-2020 (5G) promotion team will continue to promote the development of the 5G/5G-A industry, conduct key technology research and testing verification of 5G-A, and do a good job of connecting the past and the future: continue to carry out RedCap experiments, and promote the product process of RedCap chip terminals; Launch high-precision positioning testing, utilizing 5G large bandwidth, large-scale antennas, and innovative positioning technology to promote sub meter precision positioning capabilities; Study the architecture of 5G synesthesia network, key technologies of air ports, and simulation evaluation methods to verify the perception performance of 5G in low frequency and millimeter wave in more scenarios.8092163759995078135
