Ding Haiyu of China Mobile: 5G + Internet of Things accelerates the digital transformation of the industry and forging ubiquitous new quality productivity

From November 23 to November 26,2023 China Internet of Things Conference and 2023 National Academic Conference on Communication Theory and Technology were held in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. Ding Haiyu, vice president of China Mobile Research Institute, was invited to attend the conference and delivered a keynote speech on “5G + Internet of Things: Accelerating the Digital Transformation of Industry, Forging ubiquitous new Quality Productivity” at the main forum of the Internet of Things Conference.

 Ding Haiyu, vice president of the world, the position of the digital economy in the national economy is more stable and its supporting role is more obvious, and 5G + Internet of Things is an important infrastructure for the vigorous development of the digital economy. Focusing on “connection + computing power + capability”, China Mobile is actively exploring new 5G + Internet of Things technologies, such as new perception, new communication and new computing. Based on the basis of connection scale, it will expand advanced computing technologies to realize the full direction of the Internet of Things.

Ding haiyu introduced the latest research progress and future evolution ideas of China Mobile in many key technologies such as passive Internet of Things, universal integration, NTN terminal direct connection satellite, RedCap, and symbiosis.

 Networking passive Internet of Things accelerated commercial, cellular breakthrough

In terms of passive Internet of Things, China Mobile has completed the product research and development of passive Internet of Things 2.0, and has achieved good pilot results in many places. For example, real-time material tracking and reporting can be realized in the production line material scenario, and the waiting period of material can be shortened by nearly 50%; in the warehouse management scenario, automatic material inventory positioning and warehousing management, unmanned and efficient inventory of thousands of labels in 3000 ㎡ vertical warehouse, and the material inventory time is shortened to minutes. In terms of cellular passive 3.0, China Mobile has completed the outdoor scene verification in the park, realizing the ability of single station and single label communication distance of more than 230 meters.

 Carry out the perception ability verification based on the base station sending and receiving, and accelerate the maturity of the sensor integration technology

 Ding Haiyu pointed out that synaesthesia technology is an important direction of Internet of new perception, according to the perception object type, can be divided into “macro object motion perception” and “microscopic object displacement perception” two categories, can realize the drones, ships, vehicles and other macro location, speed, distance and equipment, Bridges, mines, there are huge economic and industrial value.

In the test of 5G-A new technology, China Mobile led the verification of the macro-object motion perception ability and performance by building multi-scene test environments such as “air link”, “sea Internet” and “land Internet”. Taking the “air and object link” low-altitude uav as an example, through the air transmission integration technology, the logistics route intrusion monitoring is realized, forming a multi-station continuous trajectory, perception coverage of 1km, and positioning accuracy of about 10m.

 NTN helps ground operators to expand the new market of the Internet of Things

 Ding Haiyu said, based on 3GPP NTN terminal direct satellite technology with technology sustainable evolution, star chip and module industry chain reuse degree high obvious advantages, can serve as an effective supplement to the ground mobile communication network, the star for ground operators extended fusion new market to provide technical support, connecting users in connection, rich scene of communication services.

China Mobile took the lead in carrying out testing and verification of key NTN technologies, including the field verification of the world’s first operator 5G NTN technology, verification of 5 G mobile terminal directly connected satellite laboratory, and simulation verification of NR NTN low-orbit satellite laboratory, the first operator in China, effectively accelerating the development and maturity of NTN technology and industry.

 China Mobile leads the industrial development and accelerates the commercialization of RedCap

Ding Haiyu pointed out that RedCap can carry a medium-high rate of Internet of things services, and reduce the complexity of 5G terminals by reducing the terminal bandwidth and reducing the number of antennas. China Mobile actively implement the relevant requirements of national ministries and commissions, based on the released RedCap “1 + 5 + 5″ innovation demonstration city, launched the second phase of RedCap test, actively build “5 + 3 + 3″ RedCap ecology (5 networks, 3 chips, 3 modules), carry out all-round research around technology, industry and application, and to promote the commercial capacity by the end of 2023.

 Digital information infrastructure and services are upgraded by integrating computing and intelligence

 In computing intelligence fusion symbiosis, Ding Haiyu further pointed out that communication, computing, intelligent fusion symbiosis has become an important technology for the evolution of mobile 6G network development trend, through cloud, cloud, edge, side, cloud side end collaboration, can provide users with full scene communication + computing integration intelligent services. The technology has been initially piloted in the Internet of Things data collection, industrial base station and other scenarios, bringing significant performance gain and efficiency improvement for industrial applications.

Finally, Ding Haiyu said that facing the future, 5G and the Internet of Things will evolve synchronously and move towards the 6G Internet of Things stage of all Things.
